ΧΡΗΣΗ

1. Για πράξεις που ολοκληρώθηκαν στο παρελθόν και βλέπουμε τα αποτελέσματά τους στο παρόν, τα οποία είναι και το κύριο ενδιαφέρον μας. Δεν αναφέρεται το πότε έγινε η πράξη διότι δεν μας ενδιαφέρει.

I have finished my homework. (Δε  μας ενδιαφέρει πότε έγινε το homework, αλλά το γεγονός ότι έχει τελειώσει, άρα μπορούμε π.χ. να πάμε βόλτα)  

2. Για πράξεις που ολοκληρώθηκαν σε κάποια χρονική περίοδο, η οποία χρονική περίοδος όμως δεν έχει τελειώσει ακόμα τη στιγμή που μιλάμε ή γράφουμε. Σ’ αυτή την περίπτωση η χρονική περίοδος μπορεί να αναφερθεί.

Tim has called three times this morning. (είναι ακόμα πρωί. )

Ενώ: Tim called three times this morning (δεν είναι πια πρωί)

3. Για πράξεις που ολοκληρώθηκαν στο πολύ πρόσφατο παρελθόν. Σ’ αυτήν την περίπτωση χρησιμοποιούμε τα χρονικά επιρρήματα recently, lately, just.

Your father has just come back from work.  

4. Για να ρωτήσουμε αν μία πράξη έχει ολοκληρωθεί. Συχνά με τα επιρρήματα yet, already (και still σε αρνητικές προτάσεις).

Have you typed the letters yet? (εδώ : yet = μέχρι αυτή τη στιγμή)

She hasn’t typed the letters yet. (εδώ: yet = ακόμη)

She still hasn’t typed the letters (υπονοεί ότι έπρεπε να έχει τελειώσει)

5.  Για πράξεις οι οποίες έχουν ξεκινήσει κάποια στιγμή στο παρελθόν και συνεχίζονται στο παρόν, ιδίως  με τα ρήματα που δεν παίρνουν –ing (stative or non-continuous verbs).  Πρέπει οπωσδήποτε να αναφέρουμε είτε πότε ξεκίνησε η πράξη (με το since) ή για πόσο χρόνο διαρκεί (με το for).

I have known Kate since we were kids

She has had the same car for years.

Αν δεν αναφέρουμε πότε ξεκίνησε η πράξη ή τη διάρκειά της, τότε πρέπει να χρησιμοποιήσουμε Present Simple

I live in Greece

I know Steve.
